This story takes place in the mid first century about twenty-five years after the crucifixion  of Jesus.

There are three main characters, Paul, the author of nearly half of the New Testament of the Christian Bible, Lysias, an officer in the Roman army then occupying Judea and a female slave of the officer named Atrusha.

The storyline revolves around the admiration Lysias develops for Paul as he observes the trials and tribulations he is put through by the Jewish officials who consider Paul's preaching's heresy.

The story is about a man living in Brooklyn New York who one hot July Sunday morning is suddenly confronted with the total loss of electrical power and the mind numbing fact that everyone he comes across is dead. Their deaths are for no cause he can identify 

As he travels through the "city of the dead,"days he does encounter four other survivors, a Catholic priest, a Middle-Eastern United Nations diplomat, a Jewish college professor and a New York City policeman,

The story revolves around what these survivors think  about what happens after you die.
